I\u2019ve been amazed to see there\u2019s been another volcanic eruption in the Reykjanes peninsula of Iceland.<\/strong><\/p>

Lava started spewing from a fissure in Merardalir on 3 Aug 22 and is continuing in dramatic fashion: fortunately the Icelandic authorities have said the eruption poses a low risk to local population and infrastructure, despite only being about 17 miles from the capital Reykjavik.<\/p>

What\u2019s more, it\u2019s only a few miles from last year\u2019s spectacular eruption at Fagradalsfjall (pictured above). I've been fascinated by volcanoes since childhood and was so captivated by it at the time, that I spent endless hours watching live streams of the eruption from the safety of my living room\u2026 Eventually it inspired my sgraffito-style Fagradalsfjall artwork, which went on to become my first ever Arbor Low Clothing Co.<\/a> organic cotton t-shirt!<\/p>

I was incredibly lucky to be able to visit Iceland on honeymoon in 2017 and see some absolutely extraordinary landscapes (and skyscapes: take a bow Aurora Borealis!).<\/p>

Whilst not so visually impressive, a real standout moment for me was the day I got to stand in a lava field that was still cooling from when it erupted through the ground in the 1980s. It wasn\u2019t much to look at, but the idea that I was standing on rocks that did not even exist when I was born, next to other rocks that were literally still steaming hot from 1984<\/em> was utterly mind-blowing to me.<\/p>

No prizes for guessing then that it\u2019s a real bucket list item of mine to one day observe a volcanic eruption first-hand. With this in mind, I\u2019m hugely envious of all those that have and will get to do just that in Iceland in the coming days, or maybe even months. That being said, I of course hope that everyone remains safe and well during the new Merardalir eruption.<\/p>
